Botanical Theophany

OwlCassettes I love this album because of its gentle acoustic sound that is paired so pleasantly with hippie folk. The lyrics are poetic and positive, reminding us that we need to respect one another, work together in the world, and to be kind. This is an important message, now more than ever. Botanical Theophany gives us a reprieve from what is happening in the world today and gives the listener hope and peace. The sound of this particular album is hippie-folk with a dash of Cat Stevens. Favorite track: Every Leaf.

Every Leaf 04:07
Every leaf upon the tree If that leaf had eyes to see From where it sways upon the wind That leaf could hardly understand The perspective of another Leaf whose view is wholly other So the leaves hang in the breeze Each one seeing what it sees So you and I within our stations Cultures, religions, families, nations Might find our vision incomplete In regards to those we meet But what we need is understanding What we need is room to be Conformity is too demanding You be you and I'll be me For every leaf upon the tree Adds to the beauty that we see As they sway upon the wind It's much better to be friends For we're all in this together And we can ride the stormy weather One great family branching out Rooted firmly in the ground The ground is true humanity That feeds our lovely family tree And the storms that roughly blow They can help us grow also So every leaf upon the tree I'll help you and you help me Accepting one another's hues Respecting one another's views

The universe is a flower Blooming in the unseen garden From the budding of the big bang To her slow decay and parting On a hedgerow of universes And this realization is just starting A trillion other universes Have flowered and have faded in the dirt And trillion more will blossom We are neither last nor are we first Underneath an unseen sun And the nourishing of hidden cloud bursts And who is the gardener And does the gardener have a name? Does the gardener have a family-- Do we and the gardener look the same? Is the universe of the gardener Just another flower in a chain? We can't see to our own stem All we can do is speculate But it seems certain that we're here together So isn't it useless to hate As we await the falling petals That will accompany our mutual fate? The universe is a flower Blooming in the unseen garden From the budding of the big bang To her slow decay and parting On a hedgerow of universes And this realization is just starting

Shaman Song 03:59
I saw the tree of life Growing on the shore Of the cosmic ocean I did not think twice Though I know it sounds Like a crazy notion I picked the fruit of it There at the root of it My eternal fate was set in motion I drank the chalice Which the angel handed me At the midnight crossroads I Cannot describe the bliss That one sip of that nectar On one does bestow This is the only time I will not try to rhyme I wish I would have drank The whole thing down and gotten drunk These visions come to me As my shaman music Pierces through the veil Ecstatic reverie Busting skyward from An underground river Through this well I sing of them to you What else can I do? Maybe they will edify you, Who can tell? Who can tell? Who can tell?

Verse 1: Navigating on the breeze The para-glider came to me I caught it twixt index & thumb As in my ears the wind did hum And watched it tug that way and this And closed my eyes to make a wish Verse 2: But before I did I thought About the breeze that this seed brought About the engineer's design That caused this seed to sail so fine God, nature, or another name, An intelligence all the same Chorus: The intelligence of the dandelion seed The intelligence of the dandelion seed Verse 3: And so I began to wonder Whose power this small seed was under Had the breeze brought this seed here Or did the seed through the breeze steer? Did this tuft plot its own course Through some consciousness or force? Chorus Bridge: So is the zebra white & black Or is the zebra black & white Which came first, the bee or flower? Behind our thoughts, the unseen power

Verse 1: And on the day that you were born Reality was torn You could not see the space Left within its place Now you're used to it somehow Your hand is on the plow You've bought the clothes they sold And believed what you were told Chorus: You have all that you need Buried deep within You can withstand the wind Tearing up the street You cannot taste defeat You're allowed to dream and feel Your dreams are just as real As the earth beneath your feet Verse 2: You are eternal as the light You shine just as bright You are a holy spark Hidden in the dark You don't need to be afraid Of the universe you've made It is a house of mirrors You are your own worst fears Chorus

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream Merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream Merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream Life's a dream that we dream together Life's a dream, it doesn't last forever Life's a dream, we can make it better But we need to decide whether We want to spend the time we have Fighting and crying or learning to laugh Learning to laugh I'll make you smile if you'll do the same for me Let's make this dream the best it can be I'll make you smile if you'll do the same for me Let's make this dream the best it can be Life's a dream that we dream together Life's a dream, it doesn't last forever Life's a dream, we can make it better Life's a dream, are you having a good one? Live it while you can, son Come on, daughter You know you oughtta

There is an ocean mysterious & deep That rolls in our hearts and its tide does not sleep The waves are electrical, charged with a light But they find no shore so they roll day and night And the ocean in you is the ocean in me And the ocean's in everyone but some don't see And the ocean in you is the ocean in me And the ocean's in everyone but some don't see Some try to dam it with rules & theology But it is what it is and that's what it ought to be And some turn their back 'cause they can't comprehend But the deep overwhelms even them in the end And the ocean in you is the ocean in me And the ocean's in everyone but some don't see And the ocean's below and the ocean's above And the ocean is peace, but most of all love

On the rainy doorstep of Holy Cross Saw a man dancing with his eyes closed An umbrella in his hand Julie Andrews from a boom box And I heard him talk as I approached Said he was Mother Mary dressed in drag Wanted to tell him of Meister Eckhart Who said we're all Mothers' of God Christ is born in us each day I could tell he had a troubled heart People were looking at him odd He wouldn't get it anyway Then he looked up at the cross And said, "What are you gonna do?" He asked it over and over And as I walked off to the bus It made me feel a deep, dark blue I hope the two of them find closure Why didn't I call the police? Why do think? This is Portland They use their brute force, damn the cost That's the last thing that he needs He needs solace and redemption Maybe he'll find it at Holy Cross

Freda Love 03:56
Chorus: I'm free to love, free to live Free to accept and to forgive I'm free to help, free to smile Free to carry the extra mile I'm free to live, free to love Choose to embrace & not to shove Verse 1: If we work together we can build many things But if we work for ourselves we just end up walled in Competition can be fun when done with sportsmanship But too many captains and no crew will only sink the ship Chorus Verse 2: We must hang together or we'll all hang separately Symbiosis is the way forward for you & me Chorus Bridge: Hung up on independence You only missed one thing This is a joint existence And that is why we sing That is why we sing Oh, yeah! Chorus Verse 3: No one says you have to be so greedy and so selfish The pedals only move the bike when they both act selfless Chorus 2x's
