Conifer Forest
02:40
|
|||
From below through the coldness
Of the northwestern forest
Mists rise up and start to dissipate
Ferns and fungi begin to awake
Chorus:
Silence lies deep inside
Caressed by the needles of the pines
I can find peace of mind
Leaving all my troubled thoughts behind
Walk the trails until the dusk
Winding switchbacks draped with leaves and dust
Somewhere a woodpecker plays his groove
The last rays of the sun come shining through

The Sun Bears Witness
02:39
|
|||
What thinks it’s me
Is thoughts, you see,
Springing up organically
From the soil
Of the mind
That lies before
Below, behind
Chorus:
And they all dance around
The sun is awareness
Each thought is a cloud
The sun bears witness to it all
And they all dance around
The sun is awareness
Each thought is a cloud
The sun bears witness to it all
What’s really me
Is also you
We’re the doer
Not the do
The open field
Where presence plays
The game that
Fills our endless days

Love is All We Got
01:58
|
|||
Chorus:
Bop-shoo-wop, la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Love is all we got, na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Shooby-dooby-dee, la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Everyone is free, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Verse 1:
Whomever and whatever
God may or may not be
The creator and sustainer
Wants you to be free
Chorus
Verse 2:
If God requires us
On penalty of hell
To be obedient
Then that’s not love at all
Chorus
Solo
Bridge:
But if God lives deep inside
Of everything we see
Then we’re living as we should
And we’re already free
Chorus

Verse 1:
The first time I saw him was in1666
The 3rd of August and our talk went like this
When he was 18 he took a winter walk
He saw a leafless tree and this is what he thought
Before too long this tree would have leaves & flower
That’s when he was overtaken by the Spirit’s power
Chorus:
Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection
He made a spiritual connection
Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection
For God he had a predilection, yes he did
Verse 2:
A Carmelite monk in the 17th century
Washing pots and pans when suddenly he
Led by the Spirit had a sense of God’s presence
It was an experience far beyond pleasant
Now he spends every single second
Experiencing God’s immanent presence

Are You Aware?
02:20
|
|||
The tide got tired of her voyage
And all the pesky seagull noises.
She dove deep down into her depths
And to this question came a "Yes."
Chorus:
"Are you aware in there?"
Who’s asking and who’s saying?
The mind’s the action of awareness.
It’s all a game we’re playing.
The cloud was feeling like so much fluff.
He told himself, "Hey. that’s enough!"
Turned around to face the sky.
To his query, a "Yes" reply.
Chorus
Now ask yourself dear listener;
Let your mind address awareness.
Be you age-d or beginner,
The answer will be, "Yes."

Reflections on a Lake
03:33
|
|||
Truth is the polyphonous choir of the birds,
Singing contrapuntally in the autumn woods.
Truth is the bubbling laughter of the icy mountain creek,
That tries to share the joke with you but can’t catch his breath to
speak.
Truth is the Morse code messages of headlights through guard rails.
Truth is the cacophony of upturned garbage pails.
Truth is in my heart like a seed that’s sprouting up.
Truth is overflowing my heart as from a cup.
And what does it mean to say the truth is in me?
It means the truth is in you also; that is plain to see.
The truth is also outside, as well as it is in,
But remembering it’s inside is where we should begin.
And the truth is love, and the truth is peace,
And the truth is joy, but the greatest of these--
The greatest of these far and high above,
Truth and peace and the greatest one is love!
Love is the flock of geese that honks out affirmation.
Love is the Pond at dawn who reflects in admiration
The face she sees right back at you in all your natural beauty.
Love is the hand scrawled prophecy on a window dull and sooty.
Peace is acceptance given before repentance.
Joy is mirth for the life we have on earth
But the greatest of these great mysteries
The greatest of these I shout into the breeze
The greatest of these is love, the greatest of these is love

The Silver Marmot
03:58
|
|||
As I walked the mountain path, through the air, light & cold
In search of the oracle to ask my question bold
The chipmunks flanked my either side, chattered of my approach
The cedar curtains parted to reveal the rocky peak so old
Seated on a cedar stump, the Silver Marmot smiled
As if to say, “I know why you’re here, my seeking child.”
I laid down my offering of berries, roots, and flowers
And prepared to enquire of his prescient powers
Silver Marmot I know that you are wise among the beasts
A prophet and a soothsayer unequalled in the least
Still my question is so hard that maybe even you
Do not know the answer and that makes me blue
The Silver Marmot waited for my question to be voiced
And I had traversed many miles because I’d made the choice
To bring the question to him and to see what he might say
Now the sun was sinking low as we neared end of day
Silver Marmot humankind has not been very kind
Hubris, fear, and ignorance have made us nearly blind
The question that I ask of you, wise sir, is only this
Can the world ever find peace if we don’t know what it is
Then the Silver Marmot spoke in a voice of dirt and fire
Truly the state of the earth does seem very dire
Perhaps my skills of foresight have been oversold to you
The future is a mist to me but this I know is true
Humanity has hope and faith and love this trinity
Can cause you from vain pettiness and violence to be free
Two steps up and one step back ascend the mountain trail
Working thusly I don’t think the sincere heart can fail
I thanked the Marmot for his insight and followed the trail down
My footsteps now lit by the moon to the cricket sound
We will most surely fail if we don’t give it our all
But as the Silver Marmot said, love, it is our call
